PUBLIC NOTICE

Pursuant to the requirements of the CALIFORNIA ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY ACT (CEQA) and the County’s “RULES AND REGULATIONS TO IMPLEMENT CEQA,” the Imperial County Environmental Evaluation Committee (EEC) held a public hearing on August 12, 2021 at 1:30 p.m. in the Board of Supervisors Chambers, 940 Main Street, El Centro, CA to hear the project(s) listed below and rendered a CEQA determination(s), e.g., Negative Declaration, Mitigated Negative Declaration or an Environmental Impact Report. (NOTE: Interested parties have ten (10) calendar days to appeal the EEC’s CEQA determination from the date of the public hearing)

(Informational Item Only) Assessment #20-0041: The project applicant, ORNI 30, LLC, proposes to construct and operate a 40 megawatt (MW) photovoltaic (PV) solar facility with an integrated 40 MW battery energy storage system (BESS) (not to exceed 80 MW) on approximately 227 acres of privately-owned land.   The applicant is requesting a General Plan Amendment to include/classify all five project parcels (Assessor Parcel Nos. [APN] 037-140-006, -020, -021, -022, and -023) into the RE Overlay Zone. No change in the underlying General Plan land use (Agriculture) is proposed.  The entire project site is currently zoned General Agricultural within a Geothermal Overlay (A-2-G). The applicant is requesting a Zone Change to include/classify all five project parcels into the Renewable Energy/Geothermal (RE-G) Overlay Zone (A-2-RE-G). Implementation of the project would require the approval of a CUP & WSA by the County to allow for the construction and operation of the proposed solar energy facility with an (BESS) on land zoned General Agricultural with a RE-G Overlay Zone (A-2-RE-G). The site is approximately one mile north from the City of Brawley’s jurisdictional limit.
